Application for Search of Bankruptcy Records

The Certification on whether a specified individual or business was or still is in bankruptcy can be requested in the following manner: in person, online, or by mail. A fee of $46.00[1] is charged per individual or business that is searched. 

Issuance of the Certification $12.00
Plus: Search Fee $34.00
Total $46.00

Instructions on requesting the certification:

ONLINE. You will be directed to Pay.gov to make the payment once you have submitted the online application. Only credit card payments are accepted using this method.The certificate will be sent to the email you provide. Please allow up to 2 business days from receipt of payment to receive the certification. Check your junk or spam folder before calling us at 787-977-6000 if not received. 

Notice:
Once the service is rendered, the Clerk is legally required to collect the fee pursuant to the Guide to Judiciary Policy 28 U.S.C. § 1930 (7)(b) (Local Bankruptcy Rule 5080-1) and does not have the authority to refund it without a court order. 
Online users seeking a refund shall submit a written application in the form of a letter. The letter shall include the reasons for the refund request, the name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address of the party requesting the refund. Supporting documentation shall be attached, including a copy of the electronic payment receipt. The letter and supporting documentation shall be mailed or e-mailed as follows:

BY MAIL.  Please enclose the following information by mail:

  • A letter addressed to the Court requesting the Certification of Bankruptcy Records with the complete name (including A/K/A, if applicable) and social security number or Tax Id of the individual or business that is the subject of the search.  Also include the complete name, street address, city, state, zip code and telephone number, including area code, of the applicant requesting the search.
  • A self-addressed stamped envelope to mail the certification to you.
  • A Money Order or signed check in the amount of $46.00 payable to:  Clerk, U.S. Bankruptcy Court.  WE DO NOT ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS.
  • Please include your email address if you wish to have an additional certification sent to you.
