Obtaining Case Information

Telephone Information (VCIS)

The Voice Case Information System (VCIS) allows you to call the Bankruptcy Court's computer from any touch-tone telephone by dialing (866) 222-8029 (say "Puerto Rico" when asked for the state and follow the instructions). VCIS gives the case information over the phone using a computer-synthesized voice. Information provided includes the following:

Date of filing Trustee appointed  341 meeting hearing date
Debtor’s(s) name Attorney for debtor Confirmation hearing date
Debtor’s (s) address Attorney for trustee Discharge date
Judge assigned Social security number Closing date
Chapter Claims bar date  

For customer service, dial (787) 977- 6000. Any other information must be obtained either visiting the Clerk’s office, or by mail.

 

Public Access to Computers and Electronic Records

Computers are available for the use of the public in general at the US Bankruptcy Court Clerk's office. This provides access to information related to all cases. Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) is an electronic public access service that allows users to obtain docket information from federal appellate, district and bankruptcy courts, and the PACER Case Locator via the Internet. PACER is provided by the federal Judiciary in keeping with its commitment to providing public access to court information via a centralized service.

 

Request of Case Information by Mail

Requests for case information or requests for photocopy of documents can be sent to:

A service fee of $34.00 is applicable for the search of information requested by mail. In addition, the following fees are applicable:

  • Certified copy $12.00 per certification
  • Photocopy fee $0.50 per page

 

Closed Files

Closed paper files are shipped to the Federal Records Center in Lee's Summit, MO. Request for closed files must be submitted to the Clerk's office. This request must contain the case number, and the name, address, and telephone number of the person requesting the information. A fee of $70.00 must be paid for each file requested. Upon receiving the case file, an employee of the Court will contact the requestor either by mail or by telephone. Copies of documents from the file can be obtained at a cost of $.50 per page. The process of requesting and receiving a file from the Federal Records Center usually takes two (2) to four (4) weeks.
